Los Angeles-based singer Maggie Szabo is getting in the holiday spirit with her new single “Christmas Without You,” and Celeb Secrets had the opportunity to chat with the artist and hear all about the track as well as her upcoming projects.
Featuring fellow singer/songwriter Dylan Chambers, Szabo said that she hopes fans and listeners realize that you’re never alone during the holidays.
“I just want people to know that with social media, etc, sometimes it feels like everyone is together and having the best time, and that can be tough to see if you feel like you’re the only one in the world who might be missing someone in particular. But you definitely aren’t the only one.” Szabo shares.
We sat down with Maggie (virtually) to talk all about “Christmas Without You,” and the creative process behind the track, her musical inspirations, and what’s to come in her new music.

Celeb Secrets: Congratulations on the release of your new song with Dylan Chambers: Christmas Without You, how has that release been for you?
Maggie Szabo (MS): “Thank you! The release has been great. Dylan and I wrote ‘Christmas Without You’ a couple of years ago and it has always been one of my favorites, so I’m really excited it’s finally out!”
CS: Your song “My Oh My” is currently climbing the iHeart and Billboard charts daily, what has that been like watching this song blow up and get the reaction it has been?
MS: “It’s been pretty surreal. For some reason in particular, that song has felt very special to me since the moment I wrote it, and I’m so thankful people are really supporting it. I released it earlier in 2021, so it definitely took some time for the song to get to where it is. It’s a good lesson for me because often good things take time, and I’m really grateful for how it’s taken off!”
CS: Can you go more in-depth about the meaning behind “Christmas Without You” and its creative process?
MS: “The meaning behind the song is about the experience of spending the holidays without the one person you miss the most. With the last couple of holidays we’ve had, a lot of us have had to miss spending holidays with the people we love, so the meaning of the song really holds a lot more weight than we even originally thought it would.”
CS: What do you hope that fans and listeners will take from this song?
MS: “If you’re feeling alone over the holidays, you’re in fact, not alone! I just want people to know that with social media, etc, sometimes it feels like everyone is together and having the best time, and that can be tough to see if you feel like you’re the only one in the world who might be missing someone in particular. But you definitely aren’t the only one.”
CS: With the holidays right around the corner, can you share some of your favorite holiday traditions that you do with friends and family?
MS: “I love holiday traditions! My favourite one is every year, my mom and I make my grandma’s poppyseed strudel recipe. It’s one of my favourite desserts, and we always spend an entire day making a ton of strudel. It’s definitely something I look forward to every year!”
CS: What’s your favorite part of the holiday season?
MS: “Definitely seeing my family, and eating all of the traditional holiday food!”
CS: Looking ahead into 2022, what are some goals you’d like to achieve in the new year?
MS: “I’ll absolutely be releasing more music of course, and playing more shows. I have some new songs I’m really excited about that I worked on last year, so it’ll be awesome to finally release them!”
CS: Any projects that we can be on the lookout for?
MS: “I have a fun collaboration coming out in February as well as my next single :)”
CS: Lastly, since we are Celeb Secrets, can you share some secrets about filming the “Christmas Without You” video that we wouldn’t know just by watching it?
MS: “It’s funny because the last time Dylan and I actually saw each other was about two years ago when we first wrote the song! So filming the video was definitely a fun reunion!”
