Marjorie Lord, who starred opposite Danny Thomas on the sitcom Make Room for Daddy, has died at the age of 97.

The actress died of natural causes at her home in Beverly Hills, California, on Nov. 28, the Los Angeles Times reported on Friday.

Lord joined Make Room For Daddy (later renamed The Danny Thomas Show) during the show’s fourth season, playing Kathy Williams, the loyal and supportive second wife to Thomas’ nightclub singer character. She stayed with the show, which aired on ABC and then CBS, until it was canceled in 1964. She and the rest of the cast later returned for a revival, Make Room for Granddaddy, which aired on ABC from 1970-1971.

Born in San Francisco in 1918, Lord moved to New York when her father’s job transferred there. She made her Broadway debut at 16 in The Old Maid and later signed contracts with movie studios RKO and Universal. Before moving to television, she starred in a number of films including Shantytown, Sherlock Holmes in Washington (opposite her then-husband, John Archer), Escape From Hong Kong, and Chain Gang.

Lord was married three times — to Archer from 1941-1955, to Randolph Hale from 1958-1974, and to banker Harry Volk from 1976 until his death in 2000. Her survivors include a daughter, Oscar-nominated actress Anne Archer.

She published a memoir, A Dance and a Hug, in 2004.
