Rebel tries not to pay attention to how much she weighs. "To me what the year of health was, was just being a healthier version," she told Jamila Rizvi on The Weekend Briefing per Yahoo Australia. Her weight loss journey was actually motivated by improving her fertility and also curbing emotional eating. "It wasn't about losing a set amount of weight, although I did put a goal originally of 75 kilos so I could have something tangible to work towards. But it's not about a number or a dress size, or anything like that. It was just about being the healthiest version of me and I dedicated all of 2020 to doing that, and I'm proud of myself," she added.
Rebel has no shame about flaunting her progress on social media, and admits she did "annoy some people" in the process. However, she explains that accountability is key. "I feel really good within myself and I like to celebrate the journey," she explained. "And also, why I did it publicly was for accountability as well, because it's all good and well just having a little experiment and if you don't tell people about it you could just easily fail, whereas if I tell the whole world on social media, then that's pretty good motivation."
Rebel is proud of her journey, but she is more than just her clothing size. "I think people are beautiful in all different sizes, and I would feel just as confident rocking my size 16 dress as I do now. I'm about a size 8 now," she told The Weekend Briefing. "I loved being bigger and it never stopped me from achieving anything in my life."
During the Q&A, Rebel revealed "adequate sleep, walking, hydrating, [and] drinking water" are a few of her top health secrets. "You'll always see me with a FIJI [water] in my hand, and balance it with the nutrition," she said.
You are what you think, according to Rebel. "I think because I approached it from all areas … the biggest thing that I haven't ever worked on was the emotional side, what I suffered from, I guess, as classical emotional eating … so I really worked on that side," she told Extra about her weight loss.
Rebel found a diet that worked for her, the Mayr Method. One of the major dietary changes she has made was reducing gluten and dairy, eating high alkaline foods like veggies and fish and altering her overall dietary approach—including when and how she eats.
Rebel prioritizes getting a workout in, even when she is busy. "This week was super busy but I got up super early 3 times (6am 😜) and went on a hike…even did a couple of 100m sprints to get the heart rate even higher (although my 'sprint' is probably someone else's 'slow jog' 😝) but I felt proud of myself and now only 3kg's away from my goal weight!" she wrote on Instagram.
