Sometimes, after a good Broadway Carpool Karaoke, you’ve just got to rip off your shirt and get back to rock basics. On Monday night’s installment of The Late Late Show with James Corden, the Red Hot Chili Peppers came ready to ride, sing, and, okay, wrestle with the late-night talk show host in the latest edition of Carpool Karaoke.
Conveniently timed to the release of their new album, The Getaway, frontman Anthony Kiedis, bassist Flea, drummer Chad Smith, and guitarist Josh Klinghoffer joined Corden for a kooky commute that included the belting-out of such Chili Peppers hits as “Can’t Stop,” “Give It Away,” “Californication,” “Under the Bridge,” and “By the Way,” as well as the new single “Dark Necessities.” Along the way, there was also a rendition of “Food Glorious Food” from Oliver!, a wrestling match on someone’s lawn, a story of two fans fighting each other with their prosthetic legs during a festival gig in Holland, a shirtless rendition of “The Zephyr Song,” and an anecdote of how Cher used to babysit Kiedis when he was a kid.
