Possibly following the lead that Boston's Fenway Park took the last two years with rock concerts by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band and Jimmy Buffett, the Chicago Cubs are exploring holding concerts at Wrigley Field for two days during next year's Labor Day weekend assuming the Cubs are playing on the road. According to the Chicago Tribune, Jimmy Buffett is the artist on the wish list. He has sung the national anthem during the seventh inning stretch recently and has performed at the House of Blues to benefit the Cubs’ charity.
"If the Cubs are not in town, Labor Day weekend is normally a quiet weekend in the Wrigley area," Alderman Thomas Tunney told the paper. "On the positive side, there would be some economic [benefits] to the community. On the negative side, quality of life issues would be compromised. There would have to be significant givebacks to the community." Local school and parks have been mentioned as possible recipients of some proceeds. –Jane Cohen and Bob Grossweiner
